Poetry From The Inside

The spine tingling atmosphere of the Old Castlemaine Gaol provides a unique atmosphere for readings from three of Australia’s most vibrant poets and performers, in Poetry from Inside.

Featured on the ABC’s Bookshow and in the Melbourne Writers’ Festival, Nathan Curnow has just completed a tour of Australia’s most haunted sites. These poems come from that experience.

Award-winning Karen Knight recently published her fifth collection Postcards From the Asylum, which won the ACT Poetry Prize in 2007. The poems in this book arise from her experience of the Royal Derwent Psychiatric Hospital in 1969.

Canadian-born Ian McBryde’s sixth collection, The Adoption Order, will be published in 2009. His fourth collection, Domain, concerning World War II and Europe under occupation, was short-listed for the Age Poetry Book of the Year in 2005, and was described in Overland as ‘some of the most startling, daring and interesting poems published in Australia for some time.’
